Dear Ms. Shahan:
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to you for all of your help this session with SB 363, the auto insurance coverage for child safety seats bill. I would like to also announce that Governor Gray Davis signed SB 363 on Monday, July 26.
Thank you for understanding the importance of this bill and for advocating its passage. This bill is the first of its kind in the nation. Once again, California has taken the lead in protecting families and you were right there fighting for this milestone. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Liz Figueroa State Senator, 10th District
Sesame Street Parents Magazine Advice on purchasing a vehicle
"Safety and comfort first 'Always research a car's safety record,' says Rosemary Shahan, president of Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety, a non-profit auto safety and consumer advocacy organization in Sacramento, California.
To find out how a car performed in federal crash tests, contact the Auto Safety Hotline, operated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (800-424-9393). Shahan also recommends sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Highway Loss Data Institute, P.O. Box 1420, Arlington, VA 22210-1420, for a copy of their brochure Injury, Collision & Theft Losses by Make and Model.
She adds one last important safety note: 'The fatality rate from crashes in larger vehicles is significantly less than the rate from crashes in smaller cars.' "
