California bans Chrysler deliveries
in lemon-law action

Sacramento, Calif.--In a squeeze on lemon-law violations, California decided Thursday to bar Chrysler Corp. from delivering cars and trucks to the state for 45 days. Chrysler said it would appeal, which could delay action for years.

Consumer advocates, though, were pleased with the order. 'It's historic,' said Rosemary Shahan, president of the Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety in Sacramento. 'We're delighted,' she said. 'It is the first time a state has taken an auto company off the streets for violating state law.'
